James Armstrong

Senior Vice president of development

 

James joined Caden Energy in 2016 and is responsible for strategic planning, development, and project support in multiple worldwide markets, particularly Africa and the Americas.  He is an expert in frontline tactical development government relations and holds degrees in Biology, Geology and certifications in marketing, product development, geographic information systems and real estate acquisitions.

Prior to joining Caden Energy, James held leadership and entrepreneurial roles with several industry-leading firms, including SkyPower Global (a solar subsidiary of CalPERS), Heidelberg Cement (masonry & infrastructure), Caterpillar Tunneling (underground infrastructure), Ellis-Don (heavy civil construction), Butler Manufacturing (heavy manufacturing & building envelope), and CBRE (land development). 

Over the course of his career, James has been instrumental in developing and acquiring more than 500km2 of properties, including mines, public parks, solar farms, underground infrastructure, and a variety of commercial projects.  In the renewable energy sector, James has closed land acquisitions on ~50 properties overseas, ~100 properties in Canada, and many more in the USA.  He has directly initiated development, management, and closure of projects totaling 1,000s of Megawatts and billions of dollars in Australia, Canada, Africa, Europe, and the USA.

James currently splits his time between Toronto, Ontario, and Victoria, BC with his wife and two young boys.
